‘'...I was faced with making a Father of the Bride Wedding Speech in July 2023, and I had no idea how I was to begin, what to include, what to say and then the fear of standing up in front of family and friends was getting a bit over whelming. I found Great Speech online and sent an email; I received an immediate call back from Ger and we scheduled our first of many Zoom meetings. With the help of Ger, I put together the first draft of the speech, and with Ger's help, we put the structure and content to it, as it was my first-time being Father of the Bride, I had no idea what and who to include and in what order. Over the next few weeks meeting on Zoom, we fine-tuned the contents and the delivery. Well Ger, what a day, as you said it was tears and laughter, but I stood strong and delivered a powerful speech. You would have been proud of me. My wife and son were delighted, honestly, no one expected this from me, and my golfing buddies were giving me 2-3 minutes tops. Even company directors were complimenting me and they speak all the time in public. It was all in all a very emotional day due to the circumstances, however everyone really enjoyed it. Though, I was facing the Bride & Groom, my back was to the audience, which I hadn’t prepared for; reinforces your suggestion of doing a pre=rehearsal in the wedding venue beforehand, which we couldn’t do. No problem whatsoever Ger. The whole experience was overwhelming. To stand up there in front of 200 people for the first time in my life was breath-taking. If I hadn’t met you, there wouldn’t have been a hope in hell of me coming close to what I done. So much mentions of my speech at the BBQ the following day too and over the w/e. ‘Are you doing this type of thing every day?’ People, especially my family, couldn’t believe what I pulled off, they really were dumbfounded and expecting a very mediocre speech. They had been asking me about the speech for weeks beforehand even on the morning of the wedding and I told them, ’Ah, it’ll be grand, I’ll say whatever comes in to my mind, don’t be worrying!’ They were! The birthday cake presentation went down a treat too. I’d asked the priest beside me to help me turn the pages, but didn’t he skip a page and threw me, but I knew it so well and copped it and got back on track straightaway (You can trust no one, not even a priest, Ha! Ha!). I was told that I had the audience in hysterics with some of our lines, but to be honest, I never noticed it, I guess I was so focused on the task at hand as you said to! Ger, you were brilliant, it was a privilege and we had a great laugh together doing it too.
